Out and about with a Guidion technician

What does a day as a mechanic, or rather as an expert, look like at Guidion? And how does the customer usually experience such a visit? We found out and went out for a day with one of the experts. Equipped with a notebook, banana and sandwiches, we went into the country.

Patrick

It's 7:45am and Amsterdam wakes up. The morning sun is gradually gaining ground, making the temperature more and more pleasant. It promises to be one of the first beautiful days of spring in May. The birds are chirping and making themselves heard loudly. Patrick is not whistling, but he is in an excellent mood. The 49-year-old Patrick works as an expert for Guidion. He specializes in technical services in and around the home. This means that he connects VodafoneZiggo's internet, television and telephony to people's homes and can fix any error messages. Today he goes out again. He laughs out loud and gets into his van full of equipment and cables. The first 'ticket' presents itself.

And then there was a picture

The ticket takes Patrick to Haarlem. To a care home, to be exact. Here is a woman waiting for him who is currently unable to watch television. There is sound but no image. After reviewing a number of points, Patrick sees where the problem lies. Less than two minutes later, RTL 4 appears on the screen. There is a picture! Full of amazement, but above all with joy, the lady sees the miracle. Now she doesn't have to be bored as much, she says. After a small chat, Patrick is warmly waved goodbye. “Hello ma'am, have a great day!” , he shouts.

What I love most about my job is the contact with people. You meet all kinds of people and every day is different. When I have time, I also like to have a chat.

Don't lose the thread

That Patrick was going to do something with cables as an adult should have come as no surprise to his mother. As a child, he loved disassembling all kinds of equipment and then playing with the wires. For example, the radio has had to pay for it. So when a Guidion expert showed up at Patrick's house six years ago, he couldn't resist asking the mechanic where he worked. “Guidion”, was the answer. After a selection day and a few weeks of training, Patrick was able to get to work himself. A job that turned out to be right for him. “I love everything that has to do with electronics. In addition, I like the contact with people the most about my work. You meet all kinds of people and every day is different. When I have time, I also like to have a chat.”

The green light

12.21. The fifth ticket has now arrived. It's about a gentleman from Zandvoort who has no internet. After installing a new modem, something probably went wrong. Very annoying, because the Zandvoorter can't work from home right now. After making a phone call, Patrick now knows how to fix the problem. “A new modem will have to be connected. If it's okay, you'll have the internet again afterwards,” says Patrick. He gets to work. Meanwhile, Patrick asks about the extraordinary, animated paintings on the wall. The gentleman proudly talks about his purchases and seems to be relaxing more and more. Then the minute of truth arrives... “When the green light comes on, there's internet again,” says Patrick. And yes, not much later, the promising light is on. “Yes!” , shouts the Zandvoorter. “You couldn't have made me happier,” he adds. Patrick says goodbye to the cheerful man and ends with the words; “Thanks for laughing!”.

At home

16.14. The end of the afternoon arrives and Patrick has completed his last ticket. After visits to Haarlem, Vijfhuizen, Zandvoort and Zwanenburg, it's time to go home. He finishes with some administrative tasks, then closes his laptop and puts on his sunglasses. “So, time to get back home,” says Patrick and starts the van's engine.

Patrick, thanks for laughing.
