He is the longest-serving Guidionner, was there almost from the very first moment, and he has had so many different roles within Guidion that Linkedin can't keep up. We are talking about Bas Loots. With his rich Guidion experience, he is the perfect candidate for “Behind the scenes”. We asked Bas about his highs and lows and why he did it after 16 years (!) still likes Guidion.
How did your Guidion adventure start?
“I started as an intern. At that time, Guidion was still called “Guidion Computer Help” and focused on providing IT help to individuals. The company consisted of the two founders Tymen and Barbara and four interns. Including me. As an intern, I did a lot of things. I was involved in sales, but I also went into the country as a computer assistant sometimes myself. The variety made it so much fun. After my internship, I therefore wanted to stay at Guidion. I held various functions. From account manager to project manager; it's all been me. I now support partner management for VodafoneZiggo.”
What was the most memorable moment of the past 16 years?
“That's going to be difficult to choose. haha. What I will never forget is that once upon a time a number of colleagues were in jail. In the beginning, we had a real 'fake it till you make it' attitude. We were bold and went straight to our goal. That meant that we randomly called people's homes to offer our computer help. Some people thought it was such a crazy story that they called the police. Not very strange afterwards haha.”
Haha that is indeed a good story! More highlights?
“I met my children's mother at Guidion! Of course, I didn't know that at the time. haha. Every Friday afternoon, we all had drinks after work. And on one of these legendary Fridays, I was left with Padmini. We had a fantastic evening and the first kiss soon followed. An exciting period began where we kept our love a secret. After four months, I told my supervisor. He responded to this very nicely. Not much later, Padmini went to work elsewhere. Fortunately, that did not cool love. In fact, we are now 9 years old and one child (+ a baby on the rise).”
You have now been working for Guidion for 16 years. What keeps it so much fun?
“The people. I really made lifelong friends here. Most people no longer work for Guidion, but we are still in regular contact. And we go away for the weekend every year. In addition, it is a huge advantage that I have been working for Guidion for so long. I have experienced everything and can now add a lot of value. Guidion sometimes also feels a bit like my baby. I really feel connected to the company.”
What characterizes Guidion?
“At Guidion, something is really done with your ideas. If you want or can improve something, you can do that. Guidion offers you plenty of space. This means that you can personalize your function. I really like that myself.”
On to the next 16 years?!
“Sixteen years is a long time, but who knows haha.”
