Twenty-five vacation days, accountability and a working day from 09:00 to 17:30 were not for Marcel (47). That is why, in 2012, he decided to quit his job and continue as a self-employed person. He started working as a fitness instructor and as an electrical engineer. Marcel has now been working for Guidion, among others, since 2017 and he never wants anything else. “The freedom and flexibility are worth everything to me.”
Why does self-employment work so well for you?
“I worked as an employee for a long time. I noticed that it was going to oppress me. If I wanted to go on vacation, I had to ask for weeks off in advance. After a while, I simply didn't feel like being accountable anymore. I started researching entrepreneurship. Not much later, I decided to take the plunge. Successfully! I'm enjoying my freedom now. If I don't want to work tomorrow, I won't. That is my motive. In addition, I am happy with the diversity in my work. It's a cliché, but no two days are the same.”

How do you like working with Guidion?
“Perfect! In 2017, I started training to become a telecom technician. Within a few weeks, I was able to get started. In the past few years, I have continued to grow. I am now a TAP'er (Technical Point of Contact). This means that I answer questions from other technicians and occasionally provide training courses. I love that! Transferring my knowledge to others is perhaps the most fun thing there is. In addition, the way Guidion works suits me perfectly. I schedule my own hours and I see where to go the next day at night. The assignments are just ready for me. So as long as I can, I want to keep working for Guidion.”
What are the disadvantages?
“That, as a self-employed person, you have to go to the farm. You have to go after work all the time. That's why I'm so happy with Guidion, they arrange the assignments for you. And another major disadvantage is that you will not continue to be paid if you are ill. Or when you go on vacation. But that doesn't stop me. I'd rather be able to spend less money and be with my family than live as a wage slave.”
How do you see the future?
“Very good! I hope to be able to do even more for Guidion in the future. Provide even more training courses. In addition, I would also like to do something with archiving. Like an Office manager or something. Oh well, I like a lot of things. One thing is certain; I will remain a self-employed person!”
