Working at Guidion; get to know Daimy!

‍The people behind Guidion, who are they exactly? In the recurring blog “Behind the scenes”, we give employees a face. We find out what drives them, why they chose Guidion and what makes them happy. This time, we spoke to service desk employee Daimy (25). A brave traveller with an unparalleled love for the world around her.

You've just returned from a long trip, where have you been?

“Right, I've been in Central America for 2.5 weeks. I've traveled through Nicaragua and Costa Rica. I was actually supposed to volunteer at a school, but that ultimately didn't happen. Still, I decided to go. My goal was to travel alone this year and I continued to do that. Because I thought it was important to do something, I regularly played on the street with children. That way, I was able to give them a fun afternoon and still make that small difference.”

‍What was it like to end up in such a different world?

“Wonderful, but also very confronting at the same time. I had never seen so much poverty. It took me a hard time to hold back my tears. I felt so powerless. At one point, I was even ashamed to come from such a rich country. In the Netherlands, we don't often realize how good we are. Before I went on a trip, I was already grateful for what I have, but that feeling has become even stronger.”

‍What else did this trip bring you?

“I've grown tremendously as a person in a short time. When I forgot my passport on an island or was ripped off by the local taxi driver, there was no one who could help me. I had to do everything alone and that made me stronger. I also found out that traveling makes me happy and that I don't want to stay in one place for too long. I need variety and flexibility.”

‍Is that also why you chose Guidion?

“Yes, mostly. I'm still studying at the moment, so it's nice if you can organize your own hours. In addition, there is always a very nice atmosphere. A number of friends of mine have been working for Guidion for a long time, so that makes it extra fun!”
